VIBRATION ISOLATORS

FHS & FLSS – SEISMIC

Specially designed for use in locations subject to earthquakes, the FLSS and FHS vibration isolators are manufactured in technological cooperation with Kinetics Noise Control.

FHS - SEISMIC CONTROL SPRING

Are composed of steel casing dimensioned to limit both vertical and horizontal movement during an eventual earthquake, without degradation of the vibration isolation of the spring during normal operation conditions. The standard construction includes a movement limiting device made of neoprene surrounded by the carcass. A neoprene "pad", customized, is provided coupled to the base of the spring. The device fixation is made by a bolt, requiring the equipment to have appropriate drilling holes in the support points. According to the current standards of construction, the movement restriction system is dimensioned to support at least 1.0 g-force acceleration. The movement of isolators is limited to approximately 5 mm in any direction.

Applications:

FHS vibration isolators are recommended for use in vibration and noise sources located near critical areas and where it is possible that the isolated equipments are subject to external forces associated with earthquakes. Movements that occur during an earthquake that could damage important equipments for life support are limited and the equipments remain in their positions. The fixing of isolators on the ground or supporting structure must be calculated by a competent structural engineer and the isolators should be selected based on the critical resultant forces expected in earthquake condition.

FLSS - SEISMIC CONTROL RESTRAINED SPRING:

Are composed of welded and galvanized steel housing, manufactured to limit in 3 mm the vertical movement of the isolated equipment if the loads are reduced or if the equipment is subjected to external forces arising from a seismic event. Housings also provide a constant free height from the equipment to the floor or supporting structure which facilitates the operation and installation. A neoprene "pad", costumized, is provided coupled to the base of the spring to prevent the transmission of noise structure. Leveling screws allow the adjustment of the height of the upper load plate. The base has holes for fixing on the floor or supporting structure.

Applications:

FLSS vibration isolators are recommended for use in equipment with variable weight, with fluid loads that can be drained as boilers, chillers, cooling towers, air and water condensers, etc.. They are used in vibration and noise sources located near critical areas isolated equipment are subjected to external forces associated with earthquakes. The fixing of isolators on the ground or supporting structure must be calculated by a competent structural engineer and the isolators should be selected based on the critical resultant forces expected in earthquake condition.

Springs, protection, and coding:

Like all vibration isolators of SOMAX / Kinetics, the springs have large diameter, are laterally stable, resistant to overload of 50% above the rated capacity and a lateral force greater than the vertically nominal load (in the case of earthquakes, the lateral resistance is 1.2 times the vertically rated load). These springs are protected with epoxy powder paint, according to "1000 hour salt spray rating" by ASTM B-117 and follow a color code as a function of load and deflection, being easily identified in the design and in the field.
